Dorothea Lange:

Revealing History to the naked eye

Dorthea Lange:

Dorothea Lange, a great artist during the late 1800’s – 1900’s, used photography and her work to display the underlying social inequality, and poverty that existed in America. Most of her work was centered during the Great Depression. Her work allowed for many to visually see history, visually see the struggle that many Americans underwent during the 1900’s.

Why Dorothea Lange:

Dorothea Lange time and time again, used her art to display humanity. She used her art to reveal what humanity looked like at it’s lowest as a result of societal oppression, whether it be racial, economic, and in general social oppression. Her work has allowed for so many future generations to visualize, and visually understand what times during the Great Depression was really like. She helped for the stories of so many Asian Americans that were targeted to be told, through photography. She displayed so many emotions within her work and objects that she has impacted the way that history is told today. Thankfully she has impacted me as well.

Dorothea’s work is not only a story to help history be told, but it is a truth, a truth that is passed along to the true understanding of humanity.

Thank You, Dorothea Lange.
